Subject: Shamar Rinpoche's title

Though the following statement was adressed to the Bodhipath
Centres and Monasteries in the first place, it is also
convenient for us to know: Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche requests
his students NOT to use church-like titles like "His Holiness"
or "His Eminence" anymore when addressing him.

"My wish is to prevent my students from approaching Buddhism
as a religion, per se, in which a supreme being of either
human or ethereal nature is beseeched for help in worldly
matters. In truth, I have given my best efforts in the
objective of freeing myself from the trappings of religious administration",
he writes in an official letter that was
posted on his website www.shamarpa.org on July 17, 2009.

Therefore, "the title 'His Eminence" or 'His Holiness' is
not suitable for me as I am neither a cardinal nor, least of
all the Pope. Though I do hold the position of Shamarpa, the
Red Hat Lama of Tibet, this is just to be considered an
institution and not as my personal title... I will happily
accept whatever titles in reference to me that have already
been established in Tibet under the Tibetan's uniquely
structured hierarchy set forth in the past, since in my
youth I was presented with titles out of obligation. Howver,
it is my preference that I am simply referred to as Shamar
Rinpoche."

Shamar Rinpoche says that titles mentioned above were
originally transferred from the Catholic Church to the Dalai
Lama. His declaration is clearly NOT intended to cast any
aspersions on H.H. the Dalai Lama.

Bardzo ciekawy post. W YB też jest ten katolicki "nomenklaturowy nalot", o którym pisze Szamarpa. Na poczatku mnie to raziło, ale teraz się powiedzmy, że przyzwyczaiłem. Ale w sumie do teraz nie wiem, jak brzmią w Bonie poprawne wersje tych tytułów.
